Preparing REAL for its first scan:
26 April 2004: REAL is loaded on a truck for departure
for its first deployment. See pic1 pic2 pic3 pic4
22 April 2004: Example of one of the first 30-degree
wide sector scans pointing NNW-NNE at a 20-degree elevation angle. This
image took about 30 seconds and 300 laser pulses to collect. The bright red
at the top of the image is at approximately 3 km range and is the cloud base.
The green vertical stripes in the image are caused by trees blocking the beam
very near the seatainer.
22 April 2004: Our new beam steering unit peering
out of the tent.
21 April 2004: We installed a tent over the beam
steering unit so that we could continue developing motor control software and
test the system during precipiation over the last few days before shipment.
20 April 2004: Design
and Fabrication Services (DFS) used
a forklift to install the
beam steering unit on top of the seatainer. |
