A Beginner's Guide to Solo. This site describes the first version of solo and the translaters which are no longer being maintained. The newer versions called soloii and xltrsii are supported on Linux and Solaris operating systems. All versions of solo are available on our anonymous ftp site in /pub/archive/rdpdist. Be sure to get the REAME.soloii file and the lastest version which will have a name like soloii103.tar.gz.
The purpose of Solo is to be able to peruse and edit radar data that is in DORADE format. This software is interactive and window oriented. In the future it could also operate in batch mode. The data to be perused is expected to be in the form of DORADE sweep files. Sweep files are just DORADE data broken up into one sweep per file. Sweep files are generated by a translator program developed at NCAR/RDP. This program takes a few select formats of radar data and produces sweep files as well as other products. It is possible to begin perusal once one or more sweep files are complete even though the translation process may result in many more sweeps.
